Gaelle Achieng
Non-Union
Gaelle Achieng is a non-binary actor based on the unceded traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. They were born in Nairobi, Kenya, and relocated to Canada at the age of 3. From a very young age, Gaelle knew their calling was to perform. In spite of being a shy kid, they were determined to be an actor, and started auditioning for school plays at the age of 6. Gaelle has trained across several genres in their lifetime. Most of their experience is in Film/TV, but they’ve also studied musical theatre, singing, and dancing. Though now they mainly pursue the screen, their heart will always belong to the stage.
Gaelle began acting professionally in 2019, and immediately landed a principal role in the award winning Jordan Peele production Twilight Zone and the hero role in a commercial for a local university. Briefly, they took time off to focus on school, where they studied acting for stage and screen at Capilano University to further develop their skills.
Outside of acting, Gaelle is passionate about words, activism, volunteering, and the outdoors. You can often find them curled up with a book under the watchful gaze of the sun (on the rare occasion it’s out in Vancouver) or daydreaming about their next poem/screenplay. Gaelle has long dreamed of being the dark-skinned black and queer representation they needed as a child. They plan to make space for historically marginalized groups in the entertainment industry. Gaelle never believed in pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps. There is room for us all, and it is a blessing to help wherever we can.
