From appearing in one of Netflix’s most successful global film franchises to bringing charming, heartfelt characters to life on television, Emmy-nominated actress Momona Tamada has quickly emerged as one to watch in the entertainment industry.
This year, Momona reprises her starring role as Ty Lee in the second season of Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender, inspired by the beloved animated series. Premiering globally on June 25, the highly anticipated season expands the world of the Four Nations as the journey continues on an even larger scale. Momona is also set to appear in the already announced third season, with a release date TBC.
In film, Momona will next be seen in the supernatural thriller Hide and Don’t Speak opposite Tanner Buchanan, Garrett Wareing, and Quvenzhané Wallis. Directed by Alexander J. Farrell (The Beast Within), the film follows six teenagers who become entangled in a viral Japanese game that summons a vengeful spirit, turning a childhood pastime into a deadly fight for survival.
Additional recent film credits include Paramount’s Secret Headquarters, where Momona starred opposite Owen Wilson and Michael Peña in the Paramount+ release produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. She also led Netflix’s family film The Main Event and appeared as a young Lara Jean in the global hit To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You and its sequel To All the Boys: Always and Forever.
On television, she is widely recognized for her breakout role as Claudia Kishi in season two of Netflix’s The Baby-Sitters Club, based on Ann M. Martin’s bestselling book series. Her portrayal of the artistic, fashion-forward vice president of the club was a standout in the critically acclaimed series, which won Outstanding Children’s or Family Viewing Series at the inaugural Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, with Momona earning a nomination for Outstanding Younger Performer. Additional television credits include The Spiderwick Chronicles for Disney+, The Terror, The Boys, and Happy Face.
In animation, Momona lent her voice to the mythological adventure series ONI: Thunder God’s Tale, a four-part event for Netflix. The critically acclaimed series went on to win two Annie Awards in 2023, including Best Limited Series and Best Production Design. In gaming, she lent her voice to Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, earning a Canadian Game Award nomination.
Raised in Vancouver, Canada, Momona was born to Japanese immigrant parents—her name, meaning “hundreds of beaches,” a nod to her coastal hometown. In addition to her work on screen, she is an accomplished, award-winning dancer who has trained since the age of four, and is also a trained martial artist. Her dance experience includes performances at the B.C. Summer Games Opening Ceremonies and with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. She has also worked with top-tier brands and designers including Rodarte, Celine, and Lululemon’s ivivva line. Fluent in Japanese, Momona continues to expand her career internationally across film, television, and animation.
