Kayla-Renée Wilson
ACTRA
Kayla-Renée Wilson is a dance artist born and bred in Scarborough, Ontario. She is a second-generation Canadian with roots in Jamaica, specifically the parishes of Kingston and St. Thomas. At 7 years old, she was invited to train at DOAHL Dance Academy, an all-hip hop dance school run by Greg and Charlene Anthony-Hines, two original Do Dat Entertainment Company members. There, she received mentorship in choreography and freestyle, fuelling her love for hip-hop culture and street dance. After being accepted into Unionville High School, Kayla-Renée began to expand her dance knowledge by exploring other styles, such as Tap & Modern Jazz within Musical Theatre.
In addition to her training with Do Dat members, Kayla-Renée has learned from members of renowned Canadian dance collectives and crews such as Rukus, Deuce ’N Dip, Bag of Trix, and Twisted Ankles. She is currently part of Artists in Motion Dance Company, run by Shameka Blake and WeKnoFlo Crew. Individually and collectively, Kayla-Renée has worked on projects with Netflix, Fringe Toronto, and the Yensa Festival. Today, she continues developing her skillsets as a hip-hop dance artist while training in contemporary, jazz, popping, locking, and house dance. All of which fuels her love for dance, pushing her to be a better artist.
