Barnabas Wornoff
Non Union
Barnabas Wornoff has walked the line between acting, animation and voice acting for the last 20 years. He’s worked on dozens of animated series including Danny Phantom, Jimmy Two Shoes, Corner Gas, Daniel Tiger, Wild Kratts, Peg & Corn, Psi Cops, Housebroken, The Great North, Mulligan and Total Drama Island to name a few. (yes there’s more)
Wornoff has always leaned into comedy but dabbled in drama in his acting career. Wornoff took the lead in the Peterborough Theatre Guilds performance of Deathtrap. In high school Wornoff played Robin Hood in a children’s play.
After college Wornoff teamed up with fellow Sheridan College grads and created The Super Popular Show, a mix of live action sketch comedy and classical animation. Wornoff got SCTV veteran Joe Flaherty and CBC’s Rex Murphy to voice cameos, they produced a full DVD, pitched and won second place at Banff, and it aired on Bell Star Choice Satellite across Canada and cultivated a cult following.
Working to hone his live performance, Wornoff attended Second City training in Toronto while living in Peterborough, and created the sketch comedy group SHRIMPS! The SHRIMPS hosted a live sketch and improv show every Friday for 3 years, toured Ontario, won awards and wrote hundreds of scripts.
Wornoff was also a co-founder of Toronto’s International Animation Festival TAAFI. Through TAAFI and his many industry connections, Wornoff was able to bring many of his animation hero’s to Toronto. A favorite memory was dancing at the Corus waterfront with the Director of The Simpsons.
Wornoff is also the coordinator of 2D Animation at Seneca Polytechnic where he mentors their graduate filmmakers. Wornoff loves working with so many talented directors, creators and creatives both in the industry and his students. Wornoff hosts the Seneca2D.com livestreams.
Wornoff is a classically trained artist and can draw very accurately from live models, buildings and architecture, nature or animals. He’s a trained caricaturist, and is comfortable drawing cartoons on camera like Mr. Dressup. He’s also good at making up stories on the spot. Ollie asks for a NEW one every morning over breakfast.
Currently Wornoff is having fun spending time with his son Ollie. From teaching him to draw treasure maps and krakens, to co-starring in their Pirate Podcast, where he gets to see Ollie grow as an actor and voice artist. Wornoff also holds his Masters in Creative Media and Education from Bournemouth University in England.
Wornoff is working to educate and inspire the next wave of Canadian Cartoon Creators. From his son, to his students, Toronto needs some home grown cartoons and he’s working to make it happen sooner than later.
