Cadence Oatt
Non Union
Cadence Oatt is a true triple-threat performer based in Toronto, Ontario. Her love and desire for performing were nurtured from a young age, as her mother is a professional opera singer and her father is a music director and teacher. For over 17 years, Cadence trained both competitively and professionally in ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, tap, partnering, and Latin ballroom. Cadence sets herself apart from other dancers in the industry with her extensive Latin ballroom training. She had the privilege of being coached by World Latin Champions Andra Vaidilaite and Nino Langella at DanceLife Studios. During her 12 years as a competitive Latin dancer, she was a three-time finalist in the Under 21 and Adult categories at the prestigious Canadian Closed DanceSport Championships.
Cadence attended Claude Watson School for the Arts, where she trained in dance, vocal, drama, visual arts, and music. She then continued into the Claude Watson Dance Program at Earl Haig Secondary School, where she trained in ballet and modern. Cadence began her post-secondary education majoring in Dance in the Choreography/Performance stream at York University, where she further refined her ballet and modern technique and explored her passion for choreography. After two years at York, Cadence decided to broaden her range as a performer and train as a triple threat by transitioning to Randolph College for the Performing Arts under the dance training of Steve Cota and Stephanie Galpern, the acting training of M John Kennedy, and the vocal coaching of Jeannie Wyse. During her time at Randolph College, she was in the cast of 12 Angry Jurors (Juror 10) directed by Eric Benson, and the musical Crazy For You (Mitzi, Dance Captain) directed by Geoff Whynot.
Additionally, Cadence worked for 5 years as a professional dancer with KulKat Entertainment Inc., an events-based company, performing styles such as showgirls, jazz-funk, heels, salsa, Brazilian samba, swing, charleston, and can-can. Cadence’s most notable experience as a KulKat dancer was performing the can-can in partnership with WestJet Airlines to promote their new flights to Paris. Favourite roles in her theatre career include Chava in Fiddler on the Roof (St. Michael’s College School), Cha Cha in Grease (St. Michael’s College School), and Baby June in Gypsy (DreamTheatre Productions). Cadence looks forward to collaborating with DreamTheatre Productions again as choreographer/assistant director for their upcoming production of The King and I.
Cadence brings a strong sense of passion, creativity, and positive energy to every space and role. Her experiences as a dance captain and choreographer have fostered important qualities such as leadership, professionalism, and a strong work ethic that will support her longterm success in the theatre industry. Cadence has set her sights on booking roles with major Canadian theatre companies like the Stratford Festival and Mirvish Productions, performing on cruise ships like Royal Caribbean, and ultimately working on Broadway. Cadence is thrilled to explore and share her craft as she continues to flourish as a performer and utilize her full abilities as a triple threat.
