Hazel Wallace

Hazel Wallace (she/her) is a passionate and driven Filipina performer whose love for storytelling is rooted in culture, community, and connection. With a foundation in classical voice and a flair for comedy, Hazel brings a versatile and grounded presence to both stage and screen. Her vibrant multicultural identity and dedication to representing BIPOC voices fuel her commitment to creating meaningful, joyful, and dynamic work.
A graduate of the Desautels Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba, Hazel holds a Bachelor of Music in Classical Voice Performance. Throughout her studies, she actively participated in Winnipeg’s professional theatre community, performing in developmental workshops Mabuhay High Five Workshop (Rainbow Stage), Mabuhay Choreo Workshop, Celina (Rainbow Stage) and trained at the following intensives: Actors Intensive 2021, 2024 (Rainbow Stage), RISE Musical Theatre Company Intensive 2021-2024 (Prairie Theatre Exchange), Winnipeg Studio Theatre Players 2021-2022.
Hazel has performed both nationally and internationally, including a career highlight, touring Spain with the 2023 University of Manitoba Singers and performing at the iconic Sagrada Familia. She has appeared in productions such as A Year with Frog and Toad, A Charlie Brown Double Bill (MTYP) and Ma-Buhay! A New Musical (Rainbow Stage), as well as on screen in Cheerleader Abduction (Lifetime), A Kiss Before Christmas (Hallmark), Pumpkin Everything (Hallmark), Miracle in Bethlehem (Hallmark), Perfect Harmony (Hallmark) and Elevator Game (Shudder).
Beyond acting, Hazel is a writer, producer, and advocate for BIPOC storytelling. She worked as a co-creator, producer and writer of Maria and the Mennos, a Filipino-Mennonite sitcom that aired on YesTV. Hazel served on the programming committee for the 2025 FascinAsian Film Festival. In 2024, she was selected as one of five delegates from the festival to pitch original stories at the EXNW global summit in Vancouver.
Hazel’s passion for comedy and improv has led her to perform alongside the Tita Collective (Boodle Fight Comedy Show), OperaVisors (improvised opera), and Sweet Sweet Friends (Bad Dog Theatre Company). She is also a recipient of the 2023 Golden Balangay Award for Excellence in Music and Entertainment.
Hazel is thrilled to begin a new chapter of her career under the guidance of DaCosta. She is excited to continue developing new work and to advocate for underrepresented voices in Canadian media. With a deep love of learning, a collaborative spirit, and a bold sense of humor, Hazel is excited to bring her unique voice to new audiences and opportunities.
