Jeffrey Follis
Non Union
Through his childhood in Calgary, Jeffrey Follis (he/him) was exposed to both the artistic and the traditional. He had pastors on both sides of the family and his mother led worship music every Sunday. It was theatre that allowed him to navigate the confines of his faith background as his queer identity emerged. It wasn’t until he attended Sheridan College for musical theatre in Ontario that he began exploring makeup, costume, and wigs. Since then his career has explored the intersections of theatre, music, and drag.
As a vocalist, Jeffrey was immersed in harmony from a young age. His strong ear and musicality were galvanized at Sheridan under the study of Reid Spencer and Marie Baron where foundations in musical theatre and opera provided the technique that has carried him throughout his career. Jeffrey’s voice can be heard on the cast recordings of Atlantis, by Matthew Lee Robinson and Candy Cane Kids, by Bobby Stagg and Barbara Mitchell.
Beyond theatre, Jeffrey also arranged and performed in the final iteration of the acapella trio, Hoja, where he toured western Canada as a lead vocalist for the greater part of three years. Upon relocating to Vancouver, he has taken to stages in productions Kinky Boots and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical for Arts Club Theatre, and Starwalker for Urban Ink.
