Jess Murphy

Jess Murphy is a dynamic and versatile multidisciplinary dancer based in Toronto, Ontario. With over two decades of training and performance experience, Jess began her dance journey when she joined the competitive company at the Oakville Academy for the Arts. At OAA she trained and competed in Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary, Lyrical, Hip-Hop, and Musical Theatre styles. Under the guidance of esteemed artists such as Andrew Prashad and Alex Herzog, Jess honed her technical skills and artistic expression.
While pursuing her education at the University of Guelph, Jess led and choreographed for the university’s competitive Hip-Hop team, The Gryph Steps, showcasing her leadership and creativity. In 2017, Jess began her street dance journey, specializing in Popping under the mentorship of Caroline “Lady C” Fraser and Tommy Steeze. Since then, she has competed in numerous street dance battles both locally and internationally and continues to expand her training.
In 2021, Jess joined Footnotes Academy, training under Andrew “Pyro” Chung and Mariano “Glizzi” Abarca in Popping, Locking, Hip-Hop, Breaking, and House styles. Jess is an active member of Toronto’s street dance community, regularly attending cyphers and performing at events such as 2U4U, the Toronto Front Street Festival, and the Toronto Arts Festival. Currently, she is a proud member of the street dance crew WeKnoFlo.
Beyond performing, Jess is passionate about fostering community within the Canadian street dance scene. She has organized successful Toronto Popping battles and workshops, including Borderless Boogie (Volumes 1 and 2) and Bots N Bolts.
