Non Union
José Andrés Bordas (he/him) is a born and raised Mississauga actor/producer of Chilean, Paraguayan & Spanish descent. Growing up in a Latino household, Spanish was the first and only language for the first few years of his life, only then learning English by sheer elementary school force, and the occasional English cartoons he would catch at 7 AM on Saturday mornings. A photographer by the age 8, his love for acting blossomed later in life, around the age of 15, landing his first & lead role in Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest”. From then on, José learned to embrace his artistic side and has never looked back since.
As a Queen’s University graduate of the Drama & Theatre Program (BAH) and with a certificate in French, José has accrued over 12 years of acting experience across stage and screen. During his time as a Gael, José was fortunate to work with many notable professional actors & professors, such as learning Shakespeare with Chick Reid, musical theatre vocal techniques with Melissa Morris, and even puppetry with the late Kim Renders. Having embraced the stages of Kingston, Toronto, Millbrook, and beyond, he has weaved his passion for acting into the landscape of these cities. José’s affinity for new works has allowed him to seize unique Canadian opportunities across the province, premiering and debuting in productions from “Jim Watts: Girl Reporter” with 4th Line Theatre to “Not a Cult: The Musical” with Small but Mighty Productions.
In 2019, José became the co-founder of 6 AM Productions, a Kingston based theatre company that develops immersive and improv-based devised theatre. In 2020, a postponed production in March led to exploring the world of online theatre, starting in May of 2020. What was thought to be a small temporary summer gig quickly blossomed into one of the biggest online live theatre productions the world has ever seen. In December of that year alone, 6 AM performed 120+ shows in the span of 3 weeks, showcasing local talent and broadening the scope of the Canadian live theatre landscape. For 3 years, 6 AM proudly produced live virtual theatre, allowing José to discover his rhythm as a director, producer, writer, and leader, while setting a defining tone for his artistic journey.
José is a continuing emerging artist who continues to apply knowledge, passion, and a tenacity for performance. He is not just an actor—he captures moments as a photographer, finesses the field as a soccer player, brings voices to life as an impressionist, belts out tunes as a singer, endures heartbreak as a Leafs fan, and strums his way through melodies on the guitar. José is a true multi-talented force eager to embrace the ever-changing landscape of being an artist.
