Karen Wood was recently seen as Muriel Greene in Norm Foster’s premiere production of Danny and Delilah at The Foster Festival.
Karen has over 40 years of professional acting and singing experience. She started her career as a member of the English Theatre Company at The National Arts Centre and was also a member of the Stratford Festival for 8 seasons. She appeared on Broadway and at Londonʼs Old Vic as Pitti Sing in The Mikado.
Karen was a member of the Shaw Festival Ensemble for 10 seasons and has worked extensively in many major theatres across Canada. As well as being an accomplished veteran of Gilbert and Sullivan and many other musical theatre roles like Carrie in the Stratford Festival production of Carousel, Karen has a wide background in drama. Some career highlights include playing the lead character, Michele, in George F. Walker’s premiere production of The Ravine with Lyndesfarne Theatre Co., which was also directed by G.F. Walker, Sister Alyosius in Doubt with The Rose Theatre in Brampton and Amanda in The Glass Menagerie with The Bermuda Festival.
Karen is also an instructor and has taught at Sheridan College, The Randolph Academy of Performing Arts and at the Centre for Opera Studies in Sulmona, Italy.
Karen received a Theatre Ontario Professional Training grant to study direction with her mentor, the late Neil Munro, former resident director of The Shaw Festival and is a recipient of a Tyrone Guthrie Award from The Stratford Festival.
