Kevin Castle

Kevin Castle is a Toronto-based actor with experience across film, theatre, commercials, and print. Growing up, he noticed his stepfather would laugh more, joke around, and openly compliment some of Kevin’s friends in ways Kevin rarely experienced himself. Because those friends had very different personalities, Kevin began trying pieces of their personalities on for himself, hoping one version of him might finally get the same attention. It didn’t work. But the pain turned into purpose, making him deeply curious about identity, psychology, communication, and human behaviour. 

All his life, Kevin dealt with a strong stutter, OCD, visible tics, social anxiety, and periods of bullying. His stutter could leave him repeating sounds, getting stuck on words, or pausing for long stretches before he could get a sentence out. His compulsions became so consuming that he was once asked to leave a movie theatre after repeatedly changing seats. 

Then, in Grade 10 drama class, everyone was assigned a monologue to perform. When Kevin finished his and sat back down, one of the most popular girls in school, someone who had never spoken to him before, leaned over and said, “Yo, you know you were normal just now, right?” 

It was blunt, but Kevin felt seen and important by someone who had never noticed him before, the opposite of what he had been chasing at home. During the performance, he had looked up, spoken without constantly stuttering, and his tics and compulsions had quieted. Inside a role, he had accessed a level of presence and freedom he did not yet know how to reach in everyday life. Acting became proof that fear could be transformed into expression and connection. 

His selected work includes the lead role in Priya’s Passion, for which he received a Best Actor Award at the University of Toronto Film Festival. In the interactive theatrical production Paul and Priya’s Wedding, he performed as a co-lead opposite Jasmeet Raina (Jus Reign), creator and star of Crave’s Late Bloomer. He also played the lead in Sitayana (Sita’s Journey) on Harbourfront Theatre’s Main Stage. For the worldwide launch of Sidney Crosby’s clothing line for Sport Chek, Kevin played an enthusiastic superfan in a staged press-event performance. 

His commercial and print work includes Walmart, Target Canada, Tetra Pak, Crime Stoppers, Rogers Canada, MuchMusic, and IBAC Insurance. He was featured alone in a full-page Target Canada magazine ad, was the principal foreground model in a Tetra Pak campaign, appeared on Crime Stoppers gas-station billboards, and was featured in Rogers brochures and billboards. 

The value Kevin offers, in terms of look and positioning, is a combination of warmth, emotional vulnerability and approachable friendliness. Combined with his castable, ethnically versatile look and 5’7″ height, this positions him well for supporting roles and commercial work. 

Kevin studied Cinema and Theatre at the University of Toronto. His training spans screen acting, commercial performance, audition technique, improvisation, Shakespeare, voice, and physical performance. 

During a scene with veteran acting coach, Ginger Howard Friedman, Kevin played a character who was sick. Friedman stopped the scene because she genuinely thought something was wrong and asked if he was okay. Other class members had believed it too, and everyone laughed when he explained he was acting. The character being sick made sense in the scene, yet the performance still convinced the room that the illness was real. Friedman told him, “I like your work.” 

For a final class scene at Armstrong Acting Studios, Carly Street gave him direction that substantially changed his approach. He took the redirect, performed the scene again, and it worked very well. Street told him, “You have a vulnerability to me that is beautiful. No notes. I don’t want another take. Your scene had peaks and valleys.” In the recording, the class reacts immediately after the scene ends, including, “Wow, that was really good.” 

On set, Kevin is engaged, collaborative, prepared, and genuinely happy to be there. He loves acting, and that enthusiasm shows in how seriously he takes the work and how readily he responds to direction and the people around him. 

For Kevin, acting is not only something he does. It is part of how he becomes himself.
