With over three decades of professional experience across the globe, Lisa Stevens has carved out a career as a director whose work is as thought-provoking and imaginative as it is inspired and entertaining. A lifelong storyteller, she brings the eye of a dancer, the instincts of an actor, and the vision of a choreographer to every project she leads.
Lisa’s directing credits span both established classics and new works, including the world premiere of Get Down Tonight, The KC & The Sunshine Band Musical at Charing Cross Theatre in London; the political thriller Executive Decision at The Guild in New York City; the new musical Ride, based on the extraordinary true story of the first woman to cycle around the globe in the late 1800s; Fiddler on the Roof for Drayton Entertainment; and high-energy productions of Rock of Ages, Guys & Dolls, and Grease for Axelrod Performing Arts Center in New Jersey. Her productions have been lauded in numerous editorials, earning her recognition for both artistry and innovation.
Her background as a choreographer also speaks to the caliber of her work: a perennial musical feature she choreographed was nominated for an International Emmy Award, underscoring the high standard of creativity and excellence she consistently brings to her projects.
Born into an entertainment family, Lisa’s career began in childhood on the beloved TV series The Green Double Decker Show. Her performance career grew to international heights, with credits that include the original Broadway cast of Bombay Dreams, the original West End cast of Chicago, and appearances in the movie musicals Phantom of the Opera and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. These experiences on some of the world’s most renowned stages and screens gave her a deep understanding of collaboration and a respect for every department’s contribution—a philosophy she carries into her directing practice.
A dual citizen of Canada and the United States, Lisa’s career reflects her global reach and achievements. Whether guiding a new musical to its first steps or reimagining a beloved classic, she is known for creating a rehearsal room that is both collaborative and ambitious, inspiring teams to bring their best work forward.
