Mary Jim-Akaya (known as Mary KC) is a Brampton-based actor and multidisciplinary performer. She grew up captivated by the world of Barbie—drawn to the idea that one person could be anything, live many lives, and step into countless stories. That early fascination naturally led her to acting, where she found a love for stepping into experiences beyond her own through storytelling.
She found her voice at an early age and continues to explore it across stage, screen, and live performance. Mary most recently starred as Deloris Van Cartier in Sister Act with Brampton Music Theatre. Her stage work also includes leading roles in King Musu (Akofena Afro-Theatre and UBC Theatre & Film), Hail Mary (UBC Player’s Club), and Lost in the Woods, where she has built a strong foundation in bold, character-driven roles.
A strong vocalist with extensive live performance experience, Mary has performed as a soloist in multiple showcases with UBC A Cappella and placed second in Brampton Rising Star Season 2. She has also begun expanding into screen and performance capture, including work on Tension in the Mundane and with Beyond Capture Studios.
When she’s not performing, Mary enjoys songwriting, long walks, and ending the day with a sweet treat. She is always looking for ways to grow as an artist—building new skills, exploring new forms, and adding hyphenates to her name.
At the heart of her work is a love of storytelling and a desire to bring untold stories to life.
