Mathew Hulshof

Mathew Hulshof is a Canadian actor who has spent 15 years working in the industry and is excited for a new chapter of his career, performing and creating in Toronto. Originally from Calgary, Mathew moved to Edmonton to attend the University of Alberta’s BFA Acting Program, graduating with honors in 2009. Since 2011, Mathew has been an ensemble member and artistic associate with Edmonton’s Teatro Live! Where he has acted in over a dozen productions with the company and debuted many new works written by the founder and resident playwright of Teatro, Stewart Lemoine.  

Throughout his career, Mathew has been nominated five times for the Elizabeth Sterling Haynes award for performance, for his portrayal of Brett in Mark Crawford’s Bed and Breakfast (Theatre Network), Mr. Darcy in Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley (Citadel Theatre), the world premiere of Brad Fraser’s Kill Me Now (Workshop West), Sam in the sold out revival of Stewart Lemoine’s Hey Countess (Teatro Live!), and he won the Sterling for his work in Concrete Theatre’s touring production of Smokescreen. Other notable credits include Deathtrap (Mayfield Dinner Theatre), A Christmas Carol (Citadel Theatre, 3 seasons), Nevermore (Persephone Theatre), East of Berlin (East/West Collective), The Importance of Being Earnest (Capitol Theatre) and What Gives? (Lunchbox Theatre).  

Mathew recently returned from living in Paris, France where he performed with Alchemy Theatre in a new English language translation of Chekhov’s The Three Sisters.  Mathew was the face of “Cannabis Sense” for the Alberta Government in 2022 and appeared in television commercials and digital campaigns over the course of the year, as well as starring in a commercial for Tommy Gun’s Barber shop and MagickWoods cabinets. He lent his voice to 4 episodes of the anime series Cardfight! Vanguard overDress with Chinook Animation.  

When not working in theatre, you can find Mathew cooking at home or studying French with his tutor.
