ACTRA | CAEA

Maya Doherty is a triple threat performer born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. A truly versatile artist, Maya was born into a dance family and has been in the studio since before she could walk. She grew up training in ballet, jazz, tap, modern, lyrical, contemporary, and pointe, as well as studying voice and musical theatre.

Maya attended Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts as a dance major, where she expanded her training in ballet and modern, and was able to explore her choreographic voice. She continued her education at Randolph College for the Performing Arts, where she trained extensively in singing, dancing, and acting, and had the opportunity to workshop a new musical under Louise Pitre.

After graduation, Maya was thrilled to spend the winter in Bobcaygeon doing two shows with Globus Theatre! She played Lady Crystal Cameron in Murder at the Snowball Ball, and Princess So Shy in Aladdin: A Traditional British Panto. Up next, Maya will be performing with Drayton Entertainment, in their production of Jesus Christ Superstar (Disciple/Ensemble).

She has completed the Stelio Jazz syllabus, and is trained in Cecchetti Ballet, with a Highly Commended result on her Advanced I Exam. Additionally, Maya has worked on set for a nation-wide McDonalds commercial, and has performed in many revues, parades, and community festivals. She has been honoured to take on dance captain and understudy roles in multiple productions, including Randolph’s Crazy For You, (Irene/us Polly/DC), and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown with The SPACE, (Snoopy/us Lucy, Sally/DC). Other favourite roles include Juror #8 in Twelve Angry Jurors (Randolph College), Jack Kelly in Newsies, and Annie in Annie (The SPACE).

Maya is excited to turn her passion into a career, and hopes to use all of her talents to contribute to the voice of Canadian musical theatre. Using the full range of her triple threat abilities, Maya will continue to grow and thrive as a performer, and is looking forward to exploring and sharing her artistry.
