Powell Nobert

CAEA

Powell Nobert (he/him) is a professional actor, singer, and dancer specializing in theatre. Fueled by the Thespian need to create and perform, Powell has built his craft purely through hard work, dedication, and an overarching passion for the arts. He credits his love for performance to his younger years in high school and community theatre where he was encouraged to pursue this entity as a career. Being South Asian and a proud member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, Powell strives to push against out-dated barriers both in theatre and in life.

Growing up, Powell surrounded himself with theatre and music. This led him to being cast in One Song Glory by the Musical Stage Company for a few years. In his graduating year of high school, Powell wrote, composed, and directed an original short film. Powell is also a graduate of the St. Lawrence College Music Theatre Performance program where he gained skills and experiences that have aided him in his artistic endeavor. At St. Lawrence, Powell had the opportunity to be a part of workshops for new shows, a pop intensive guided by Valerie Stanois, and on-camera/voiceover workshop with Jay Shramek. Additionally, he had the opportunity to write, compose, and musically direct a new Canadian musical as a class project.

In his performance placements, Powell was cast to play Gus, Growltiger, and Bustopher Jones in Cats: The Musical, and the iconic Dr. Frank N’ Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The placements offered him connections with industry professionals such as Chad McNamara, Christy Adamson, Heather Braaten, Aaron Eyre, Ian Simpson, Jennifer Walls, Stephan Dixon, and many more. Powell is a well-rounded performer with extensive training in singing and acting and can stylistically dance with technical elements. Additionally, he is fluent in both English and Tamil.

Coming from a musical family, Powell is well-versed in this field of focus. He offers new and innovative ideas in a rehearsal room, all with a positive attitude and a smile. Currently, Powell has a business named ‘Cut Corners’, where he offers the service of cutting, creating, editing, and strengthening sheet music or performance tracks for singers and actors to use. Powell lives by the saying “work hard on work worth doing” and he finds the creative and performing arts to be work that is the most worth doing.
