Suchiththa Wickremesooriya

Suchiththa Wickremesooriya (he/him) is a versatile actor who most recently appeared in radical reimagining of Jesus Christ Superstar with Talk is Free Theatre. He is known for work that is physical, grounded and for theatre that includes the Deaf and Disabled communities. Notable roles include Ariel in The Tempest (Citadel Theatre, 2019), Kamal in Bombay Black (Alberta Theatre Projects, 2023) and George in 3 Men in a Boat (Guild Festival Theatre, 2023). He is also a Dora nominated producer for his work on Romeo and Juliet, and Action with Shakespeare in Action as well as a Broadway World Award nominated actor for his work on 3 Men in a Boat. He has had the opportunity to work with renowned directors such as Josette Bushell-Mingo, Ravi Jain (Why Not Theatre), Ellen Lauren (CITI)  and Saccha Dennis.

He was trained at the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London, UK, and holds a M.A in Musical Theatre. He has also continued to invest in the education of other actors, both at his time at Shakespeare in Action as the lead on Education, as well as at various other educational institutions, including Toronto Metropolitan University. He was also trained in classical voice from the age of 12 in Sri Lanka by Mary Anne David, Sri Lanka’s premier voice coach.

Outside of the arts, he enjoys raising his son alongside his wife, growing as many fruits and vegetables as he can manage, and volunteering with a variety of charities that support vulnerable populations. 

Suchiththa’s goal as an artist is to tell stories that others aren’t considering, and to shed light in dark places so that we can bring things out into the open. He believes that peace can only be found in the light and facing the uncomfortable realities that we all live in.
